Today I am joining The Write Reads ultimate blog tour for With Fire in Their Blood by Kat Delacorte which comes out this thursday. I will have a full review up for this one as soon as life allows, because it was a fun read that brought together some really interesting elements.
When sixteen-year-old Lilly arrives in Castello, she isn’t impressed.
A secluded town in the Italian mountains is not where she saw her last years of high school playing out.
Divided for generations by a brutal clan-family war, the two halves of Castello are kept from destroying each other by the mysterious General, a leader determined to maintain order and ‘purity’. . . whatever the cost.
Lilly falls in with the rebellious Liza, brooding Nico and sensitive Christian, and sparks begin to fly. But in a city where love can lead to ruin, Lilly isn’t sure she can trust anyone — not even herself.
And then she accidentally breaks Castello’s most important rule: when the General’s men come to test your blood, you’d better not be anything more than human…
Check out what some of the other bloggers have been saying!!
Candyce at The Book Dutchesses:
‘With Fire in Their Blood pulled me in right away and Ket Delacorte’s writing made it very easy to want to keep on reading this story. The setting and tone of the book is exactly what I was expecting after reading the synopsis. Castello is dark, eerie, mysterious, and had me asking a lot of questions. This is definitely the perfect type of book for a dark and rainy day. I read it all in just about one sitting.’
‘The novel is fast-paced and packed full of action, dark magic, superstition and deadly rivalry. Mix these ingredients together and the novel is an absolute triumph! I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and I cannot wait for the next instalment in this YA fantasy duology!’
‘I loved how magic and reality are merged in this one. Castello is coming to live in front of your inner eye while reading, it feels like you actually are in this ancient forgotten town in Italy. It made sense for people there to be supersticious, to not believe in the newest technology, to be a bit suspicious of outsiders and not wanting anyone come in – or anyone of their own get out.’
Anca Antoci at Summon Fantasy:
‘Each character is unique and multi-dimensional and has past traumas that shaped them into what they’ve become. This is revealed bit by bit as the story unfolds. For those who enjoy a diverse cast, I’m happy to say you’ll find diversity well casually represented in this story.’
Kat Delacorte was eleven years old when her family moved from the United States to a small town in central Italy. She soon began writing stories about her new friends developing superpowers, and she hasn’t looked back since. She graduated with a BA in History from Columbia University, and lives in Venice, Italy.
