Beneath A Thousand Skies is a blog about books, nerdery and Dungeons & Dragons.
The Blogger – aka Me
Greetings! I’m Rowena, a thirty+ (not sure when that happened) year old blogger who currently resides in East Scotland after moving up here for university and never quite leaving. I’m a geography graduate and I also have a post-grad diploma in Coastal and Maritime Societies and Cultures, and will be starting a second undergraduate degree in Archaeology in September 2023.
I also happen to be dyslexic, so if you encounter some jumbled letters, please know I do my best to proof read everything, multiple times, and often add mistakes on those later passes. I love anime, dungeons & dragons and video games, and the rest of the time I can be found curled up with the cat, dog and a good book while hiding away from the Scottish weather.
I decided that I wanted to do more with my love for books, inspired by getting more involved with bookish events in 2019 – hence this blog where I will review, ramble about and share the books I’m reading and want to read, and general nerd out about books.
My favourite book genres to read include (although I will give most genres a read):
- Fantasy (especially Epic, Dark and Grimdark)
- Sci-fi
- LGBTQIA (in all genres)
- Action/Adventure
- Non Fiction
My favourite authors are Sarah Chorn, Luke Tarzian, Nathan Hall, Anna Stephens and Tamora Pierce. While Anne McCaffrey will aways have a special place in my heart because that was my gateway to reading SFF, and I am also an avid Clive Cussler reader!

The Blog
The blog is titled Beneath a Thousand Skies in reference to the idea that ‘a reader lives a thousand lives’ (G.R.R. Martin), and the fact that I read a lot of fantasy of sci-fi which occur beneath very different skies that the usually grey Scottish sky.
Please, always feel free to chat to me either here or on twitter if you would like to get to know me better.
